The Syndicate War
The Syndicate War
56 Next Age
After the Battle of Mount Zephyr, the Syndicate retreated back into the Underdark and appointed new leaders. For decades they recovered from their chaotic birth and the Battle of Mount Zephyr, but eventually it was the tieflings that came out on top. The tiefling Archmage Arklem Greeth took over as the leader of the Syndicate and ensured that the alliance endured. Their goal was the same as the secret Order of Holios, which disappeared after the Battle of Mount Zephyr, to destroy the two remaining elemental lords.
Archmage Greeth led the tieflings to expand aggressively, taking over Sarunn and the Labyrinth and pushing towards Gracklstugh. The incident at Gracklstugh instigated the Syndicate War, a civil war between the allies of the Syndicate. Archmage Greeth wanted to get rid of the kobold Tribe of Temberchaud in Gracklstugh and give the city back to the duergar, strengthening the duergar and thus the Syndicate. With duergar and drow forces, the tieflings besieged Gracklstugh until the kobolds surrendered. The Syndicate changed into an alliance between the tieflings, the drow, and the duergar with a number of monster races as subjects. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of the Syndicate War.
Thousands of bugbears fled to the elves on the surface along with a large number of kobolds. The bugbears and kobolds sought refuge at the Freelands of Martz, where the elves began helping them in their fight for freedom and to save the rest of the oppressed races of the Syndicate. Meanwhile, the Syndicate was continuing their aggressive expansion and eventually collided with the dwarven kingdom of Sirenum, who did not wish to join the Syndicate. This led to open conflict, which the elves took as an opportunity to attack as well. This led to the climax of the Syndicate War, which was never resolved, but has kept the Syndicate at bay and within the Underdark for half a century.
